Dear Friends,

So here we are, weeks into what feels like a strange new reality. The future remains uncertain for a lot of us, no matter what industry we are in. Although it might be a tough time for small businesses everywhere, we are finding that support and communication with our community is the best medicine right now.

In truth, the behind-the-scenes story is that we started Building Block out of our dad’s storage garage, tying each hangtag on every bag and packing each order with gratitude and excitement over the community that we were just starting to build. After 9 years of many collections and many lessons learned, we have smoothed out the creases, made wonderful wholesale partnerships, opened our first flagship store in Los Angeles, and most importantly of all, have hired a small but talented team of women that we insist on continuing to support.

There is the unnerving possibility we might find ourselves back in that storage garage, doing it all ourselves once again, but the same encouragement from our community we felt while packing those first boxes in 2011 is what still pushes us forward. Knowing that what we create might make you feel special or excited every time you reach into your bag is what keeps us all going here at BB. We want to continue to make things that you will use everyday, for a long time, with quality, and with care.
